When passing traffic during a drill or emergency, the use of phonetics is a great way to get correct information to the receiving station. You cannot mistake letters e, c, g, d, and b for anything but the proper letters. However, many operators use their own phonetic alphabet. It may sound unique to them but it can be very confusing to the receiving station. The standard recognized word list adopted by the International Telecommunications Union is printed below. Please use it.
